Joe Costa | Chief Operating Officer

Joe Costa, Chief Operating Officer for Wedgewood, is responsible for ensuring that corporate goals are met based on the company's strategic plans. The eight operating sites and the Quality, Compliance, Planning, Procurement, and R&D departments report to him. His responsibilities include:

  • Setting objectives, goals, and budgets to achieve the company’s vision, mission, strategies, and profitability targets.
  • Managing day-to-day operational team leaders to ensure quality preparations are safely shipped when needed at target cost and within all regulations.
  • Improving systems and processes continuously to meet business goals, develop talent, ensure needed capacity, improve preparation quality, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Building financial and analytical sophistication to drive sound decision-making.
  • Developing a breakthrough culture with the extended leadership team.
  • Supporting merger and acquisition activities from identification through integration.

He joined Wedgewood in 2016 as the chief operating officer and was promoted to president and chief operating officer in August 2020.

Prior to joining Wedgewood, for four years, he was the vice president and general manager at PCI Pharma Services, a contract packager for most of the major pharmaceutical and medical-device manufacturers in the country. During his time there, his site in New Jersey grew from $55 million to $95 million in annual revenue due to a significant improvement in customer service and an emphasis on building strong strategic customer relationships.

He also worked at Covidien, a pharmaceutical and medical-device manufacturer, progressing from a production manager to divisional vice president of Global Operations during his 16-year career. While vice president of Global Operations, he received the President’s Award of Excellence for leadership during 2009’s “Great Recession.” Previously, he worked at Procter & Gamble in various manufacturing operations for six years.

He earned B.S. degrees in Economics and Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University and has also achieved certifications in both lean manufacturing and Six Sigma.
